The Paine Art Center and Gardens, 1410 Algoma Blvd., hosted Buddhist monks this week to educate the public about Buddhism, Tibetan culture and more.
The monks created a Tibetan sand mandala with a theme focused on compassion.
A corresponding exhibit, "The Mystical Arts of Tibet," features guided meditation, ability to watch the monks create the mandala, dance performances and a look at "Tibetan Portrait: The Power of Compassion," a photo series by photographer Phil Borges who documented the Tibetan people.
A mandala is a spiritual and ritual symbol in Buddhism that represents the universe. Many mandalas have a theme.
